תווים חוקיים מוגבלים לתווי ASCII בלבד. האפשרות היחידה של תו בריחה (escape) בכתובת URL היא לייצוג רווח לבן בין מילים. המערכת מתעלמת מרווחים לבנים בתחילת הטקסט או בסופו.
