FAQs

Will registered domains be automatically verified for other Google products?

Yes. Domain verification can be a painful process. However, domains registered with Google Domains will automatically be verified in Google Search Console, making it easier for customers to set up services like:

  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Google Merchant Center
  • Google AdWords
  • Google Apps for Work (coming soon)

Does the widget work for existing domains?

Not at this time. It can only be used to register new domains.

Are there any restrictions on domain registration?

Yes. Only customers who have a US billing address can register domains.

Which top-level domains (TLDs) are offered through the widget? Can I control which ones users can register?

Our supported TLDs are listed in this help center article. Using the widget API, you can set the default list of TLDs in search results to better fit your users' needs, though users can edit these filters themselves if they prefer a non-default TLD.

What resource records can I set on a domain?

You can set resource records of the following types:

  • A
  • AAAA
  • CNAME
  • MX
  • TXT

We also provide HTTP302 forwarding, so you can redirect website visitors to another site.

Resource records can be set on any subdomain, with the exception that we do not support CNAME records on the root domain. However, you can place an HTTP302 redirect on the domain to a subdomain with a CNAME record, such as www.

example.com ---HTTP302---> www.example.com ---CNAME---> yoursite.com

We also let you define variables which you can use to set DNS record values programmatically. Example: %my_subdomain%.example.com becomes foo.example.com when my_subdomain is passed as foo.

Can you change resource records after the domain has been purchased?

Not at this time. You are only able to set the default resource records on newly registered domains.
