Rana is a self taught designer in his third life. Living with cats seems to be rubbing off on him.
His previous lives include executing turnkey projects for Siemens India Ltd, writing code and managing projects for SAP and designing experiences for SAP. His life seems to revolve around 7 years cycles of obsolescence and renewal. Growing by falling upwards, to quote Robbie Williams.
He has also deejayed professionally for 4 years, studied psychotherapy - specifically transactional analysis, for 4 years, is a practicing facilitator for family constellations and has been a student of aikido for the last 7 months.
Rana teaches the design process as a means of becoming a better designer. Startups, non profits and design students are his weapons of choice.
He also enjoys applying the design process to intervene XL size experiences as a way of developing rigor in his own process. Under-graduate education and lifelong learning is currently his experience of choice.
His current skill set is best described as experience design and draws from cinematic craft as his source discipline.
Amongst his strengths are : design research, synthesis work, systems thinking, concept development, service & interaction design, narrative craft, experiment design and process facilitation.
Amongst his weakness are : his sketching skills. A compulsive doodler, he is working to turn up the fidelity of his sketches.
Finally, Rana believes the design process taught today is much too complex for startups. He has defined, applies and teaches a plain english version of the design process designed for startups called Startup By Design.
He remains inspired by Steven P Jobs, Frank Gehry, Alan Kay, Jony Ive, Burt Hellinger and Morihei Ueshiba.
