About SSO

Single sign-on (SSO) allows users to sign in to many enterprise cloud applications using a single set of credentials. Workspace (and Google Cloud Platform) support SSO from third-party identity providers (IdPs).

Workspace supports both SAML and OIDC SSO protocols. SAML SSO supports any IdP. Currently OIDC supports only Microsoft Entra ID.

To use SSO, you configure SSO profiles, then assign them to user groups or organizational units. This allows support for multiple IdPs and for testing SSO configurations. This is the recommended system for SSO. Our older Legacy SSO profile for organizations is also available (for SAML only).

SSO is also available on Chrome devices. For details, go to Configure SAML single sign-on for Chrome Devices.

Synchronizing user accounts between your IdP and Google

To simplify user lifecycle management, most organizations using SSO also synchronize their user directory from the IdP to Google. With sync in place, new (or deleted) users on the IdP side are automatically added or deleted as Workspace users. Google’s Directory Sync supports Active Directory and Entra ID. Most IdPs support sync to Google. See your IdP's documentation for setup instructions.

SSO and Secure LDAP

Secure LDAP requires a Google password and is incompatible with SSO.
