We had a blast at I/O’25!  It was great to meet and talk to so many Android developers. If you didn’t get a chance to join us at I/O in Mountain View, that’s ok. Google Maps Platform integration was also highlighted during the AI Studio portion of the Developer Keynote.

We are excited to announce that Places UI Kit is now in General availability.

Places UI Kit is a new low-code, low-cost product designed to bring the familiar Google Maps UI for Places onto your map of choice to help you more easily create impactful and intuitive user experiences. Using the same data that powers the Google Maps Platform Places API, Places UI Kit is available through the Maps JavaScript, iOS and Android SDKs for use with any Map.   All Places UI Kit components output “Place IDs” so they can be interoperable with other Google Maps Platform services.  

This update is particularly relevant for customers in the Real Estate , Travel , and Messaging & Social Media verticals. 

• Real Estate : Help buyers/renters explore nearby amenities, schools, and other relevant Points of Interest (POIs) near a property or neighborhood to get a feel for the area.

• Travel : Help tourists and travelers find places nearby by enabling discovery and exploration of restaurants, bars, and other attractions near a holiday rental or a hotel.

• Messaging and Social Media : Deliver engaging experiences for your users by bringing the familiar Google Maps search and discovery experience in the app.

Have you ever wondered how many pizza shops are in your local town or city? Well, with Places Aggregate API you can do just that, and much more. The Places Aggregate API provides insights about places within a specified area, using criteria important to you, such as operating status, pricing level, user rating, location, or type. Results can be either aggregated counts, or identified places IDs. You can even use the Place Details API to retrieve even more information about those Places IDs .

The Photorealistic 3D Maps in the Maps JavaScript API is now available in Preview ! Developers will be able to build immersive, interactive mapping experiences powered by Google’s rendering technology, photorealistic 3D imagery, and integrated places-rich basemap. We’ve heard your feedback, and happy to share key updates include:

• Improved accessibility with 3D Maps, including keyboard and screen reader friendly markers and info windows

• New customizable content elements and interaction options to drive more meaningful experiences within a 3D scene

• Place name and address information on the 3D Maps’ integrated basemap

• Expanded event handling for polygons, polylines, and 3D models

We are excited to announce that our AI-powered Place, Area, and Review Summaries are now Generally Available for places in the U.S. 

Places API (New) AI-powered summaries use Gemini model capabilities to return summaries about places and areas that can help users decide where to go. Let’s say you’re considering trying a new restaurant, an AI-powered summary can surface common menu highlights, give you an idea of the vibe, or pull together themes from user reviews.
