We’re excited to announce a new, experimental open-source tool designed to solve a major frustration in AI-assisted development: getting outdated, incorrect, or hallucinated code for Google Maps Platform.

Introducing the Google Maps Platform Code Assist toolkit , an Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects your favorite AI coding assistant directly to our official, up-to-the-minute documentation and code samples.

Install Code Assist in your favorite AI Assistant that supports MCP - including Cline, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, Firebase Studio, Android Studio, and many more.


The problem: AI assistants don't always get It right

We've all been there: you ask your AI assistant for a Google Maps Platform code snippet, only to spend more time debugging it than if you had written it from scratch. This can happen when an AI model's training data isn't current with the latest versions of our API or SDK documentation.

The solution: An AI assistant that's a Google Maps Platform expert

The Google Maps Platform Code Assist toolkit acts as a trusted, authoritative context source for your AI assistant. By grounding your assistant in our official documentation and best practices, it helps you generate accurate, reliable code the first time.

With the Code Assist toolkit, you can:

  • Stop debugging: Get code that uses real, current Google Maps Platform APIs.

  • Use modern libraries: The toolkit guides your AI to use our latest endorsed libraries, like @vis.gl/react-google-maps for React, instead of older, unmaintained ones.

  • Accelerate prototyping: Move faster from a simple prompt to a working, trustworthy prototype.
