We recommend trying Gemini Code Assist for individuals. Go to VS Code or JetBrains IntelliJ and install the Gemini Code Assist extension. Sign in with a personal Gmail account that's not associated with Workspace.

Using Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise editions requires a Google Cloud project. If you landed in an experience that asks you for your Google Cloud project, you are either (1) already in the Standard or Enterprise edition of Gemini Code Assist or (2) signed in with a User ID that does not qualify for the free version of Gemini Code Assist. Try signing back in with your personal Gmail account to access Gemini Code Assist for individuals.

Gemini Code Assist for individuals uses the same models as Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise, including the use of a tailored version of Gemini 2.0 for coding use cases.

To use Gemini in Android Studio, perform the following tasks:

  • Download the latest canary version of Android Studio.
  • To launch Gemini, open or start an Android Studio project and click View > Tool Windows > Gemini.
  • Sign in to your Google Account when asked, if you aren't already signed in. The chat box appears and you can start using Gemini's interactive, conversational interface.

As long as your email address is a Google Account and not tied to Google Workspace or Google Cloud Identity, you will be able to use Gemini Code Assist for individuals. It's possible you may not know whether it is tied to Google Workspace or Cloud Identity if someone else at your organization is managing your domain. If this is the case, we recommend signing back in with your personal Gmail account.
