Flashing instructions

Flash Tool

The Android Flash Tool lets you update the firmware on your Glass device. Click Flash next to the firmware you want to install and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

For more information, see the Android Flash Tool overview.

Note: USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking are enabled for the Glass flashing process. This allows you to move directly to the second step after you complete the Flash Tool instructions.

Note: If the Flash Tool asks you to reselect the device, reload the page and start the flashing process again. Don't interact with the device unless instructed to do so.

Note: Flash Tool is the preferred method to update the firmware on a Glass device. Manual flashing instructions are kept for reference only.

For Glass flashing, follow the standard Android flashing procedures.

Before you begin

• Make sure Android Debug Bridge (adb) and fastboot is installed on the host computer. We recommend that you download them with SDK Manager, or you can download them directly.
• Download and unzip the build.
  Note: The zip file of the build contains the files you need in order to flash the device.

Flash a system image

1. Connect your Glass to your computer with a USB connection.
2. Start the device in fastboot mode with one of the following methods:

   Start the device with the adb tool

   1. Check for Glass, and only Glass, with the following command:

      adb devices

      Note: If you see more than one device listed, unplug the others or select the Glass device that matches the serial number of your device. More information is available in our How adb works documentation.

   2. Put the Glass device into fastboot:

      adb reboot-bootloader

   Start the device with physical buttons

   1. Turn off your Glass EE2 device.

   2. Press and hold the camera and power buttons for three seconds until you see the following text: “Press volume key to select, and press the power key to accept.”

      Note: In the bootloader, the camera button acts as volume down. You press the power button and the camera button simultaneously to get into the bootloader. The camera button continues to act as volume down in the bootloader.

3. After the device boots, the fastboot screen is displayed and the device lists with the following command:

   fastboot devices

4. After the device is in fastboot mode, follow the instructions from the README.txt file, which you can find inside the downloaded system image archive in the table above.
