Google Maps Android API ו-Google Maps SDK ל-iOS מספקים שירות Street View לאיסוף תמונות המשמשות ב-Google Street View ולטיפול בהן. התמונות מוחזרות כתמונות פנורמיות ב-360°.
כל תמונה פנורמית ב-Street View היא תמונה או קבוצת תמונות שמספקת תצוגה מלאה ב-360 מעלות ממיקום יחיד. התמונות מתאימות לתצוגה המלבנית
(Plate Carrée), שכוללת 360 מעלות של תצוגה אופקית (תמונת היקפית מלאה) ו-180 מעלות של תצוגה אנכית (מישור למעלה עד ישר למטה). התמונה הפנורמית ב-360 מעלות שמתקבלת מגדירה היטל על
כדור, כאשר התמונה ארוזה על פני השטח הדו-ממדיים של אותו כדור.
