Custom Fields

Custom fields in Google Issue Tracker are fields that may be available on a per-component basis in addition to the standard default fields. Custom fields are created by the Google employees who are responsible for managing a component. Public and partner users cannot create custom fields or change which custom fields are available.

Find custom fields

When you create an issue, any custom fields defined for the component appear in the Advanced fields panel near the bottom of the page. The custom fields are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the list of fields.

When you edit an issue, custom fields appear in the Issue fields panel, at the end of the list of fields.

Hidden custom fields

When a component administrator adds custom fields to a component, they can choose to make the fields hidden. When custom fields are hidden, they are removed from the Create Issue view. In the Edit Issue view, hidden custom fields are in the collapsed Show additional fields section at the bottom of the Issue fields panel. When you expand the Show additional fields section, the hidden fields can be viewed and edited.

Search for issues by custom fields

As with the standard default fields, you can search for issues by the value of a custom field. When using a custom field as part of your issue search criteria, you must provide additional information to Issue Tracker:

  • When you search by the customfield field, Issue Tracker prompts you to type the name or ID of a custom field to use in your search. Once you have selected the field, complete the search criteria as you would a regular field.

View custom fields in search results

You can add custom field columns to any search results view:

  • When you select Custom Field from the list of field columns to add, Issue Tracker prompts you to select the component to which the custom field belongs.

  • After you select the component, a drop-down list of the custom fields for that component is displayed. Select the custom field you want from this list and Add it as a column.
