The PLACES_COUNT_PER_TYPE
, PLACES_COUNT_PER_GEO
, and PLACES_COUNT_PER_H3
functions now support the sample_place_ids
column in the response. This
column, of type ARRAY<STRING>
, includes up to 250 place IDs for each element
in the response.
For Place count functions, reduced the minimum search area from 500 meters by 500 meters (250,000 m2) to 40.0 meters by 40.0 meters (1600 m2).

Announcing the Experimental release of Place count functions for Places Insights. Place count functions are predefined SQL queries that run in BigQuery and don't enforce a minimum count threshold. These functions are complementary to places data queries and the underlying data for both the dataset and the functions are the same.
