Mulai malam 1 Januari 2024, berdasarkan permintaan dari kementerian Jepang dan organisasi terkait, JAXA menerapkan pengamatan darurat ALOS-2 PALSAR-2. Karena JAXA berharap data pengamatan darurat ini akan sangat berguna untuk pengelolaan bencana, JAXA memutuskan untuk membuka data ini di Google Earth Engine untuk penggunaan publik dan riset.
JAXA merilis data pengamatan mode peta strip PALSAR-2 Level 2.1 dengan polarisasi tunggal 3 m untuk 1-3 Januari dan 8 Januari 2024, bersama dengan beberapa data arsip. Data PALSAR-2 Level 2.1 diortorektifikasi dari data level 1.1 menggunakan model elevasi digital. Nilai DN dapat dikonversi menjadi nilai sigma nol
dalam satuan desibel (dB) menggunakan persamaan berikut:
