O produto GEDI L4A Footprint Biomass converte cada forma de onda de alta qualidade em uma previsão de AGBD, e o produto L4B usa a amostra presente dentro das bordas de cada célula de 1 km para inferir estatisticamente a AGBD média.
A missão GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation, na sigla em inglês) tem como objetivo caracterizar a estrutura e a dinâmica dos ecossistemas para permitir uma quantificação e compreensão radicalmente aprimoradas do ciclo de carbono e da biodiversidade da Terra. O instrumento GEDI, conectado à Estação Espacial Internacional (ISS, na sigla em inglês), coleta dados globalmente entre as latitudes 51,6° N e 51,6° S na resolução mais alta e com a amostragem mais densa da estrutura tridimensional da Terra. O instrumento GEDI consiste em três lasers que produzem um total de oito transectos de feixe no solo, que amostram instantaneamente oito pegadas de ~25 m espaçadas aproximadamente a cada 60 m ao longo da trajetória.
