A versão 6.2 do MCD18C2 é um produto de nível 3 em grade de radiação fotossinteticamente ativa (PAR) combinada do Terra e Aqua do espectrorradiômetro de imagens de resolução moderada (MODIS) produzido diariamente com resolução de 0,05 grau (5.600 metros no equador) com estimativas de PAR a cada 3 horas. A PAR é a radiação solar incidente no espectro visível (400 a 700 nanômetros) e é uma variável importante em modelos de superfície terrestre que abordam uma variedade de questões científicas e de aplicativos. Os produtos MCD18 são baseados em um algoritmo de prototipagem que usa assinaturas multitemporais de dados do MODIS para derivar a refletância da superfície e calcular a PAR incidente usando a abordagem de tabela de pesquisa (LUT, na sigla em inglês). As LUTs consideram diferentes tipos de cargas de aerossóis e nuvens em uma variedade de geometrias de iluminação/visualização.
