Il prodotto NASA Suomi National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) Visible
Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Land Surface Temperature and
Emissivity (LST&E) Day Version 1 (VNP21A1D) viene compilato quotidianamente
a partire dai prodotti intermedi L2G (Level 2 Gridded) diurni.
La procedura L2G mappa i granuli giornalieri delle strisciate VNP21 su una griglia sinusoidale MODIS e memorizza tutte le osservazioni che si sovrappongono a una cella della griglia per un determinato giorno. L'algoritmo VNP21A1 esamina tutte queste osservazioni per ogni
cella e stima il valore LST finale come media di tutte le osservazioni
senza nuvole che hanno una buona precisione LST. Per questa media vengono prese in considerazione solo le osservazioni con una copertura superiore a una determinata soglia (15%).
