Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) mendukung sensor Day-Night Band (DNB) yang memberikan pengukuran harian global cahaya tampak dan inframerah dekat(NIR) nokturnal yang sesuai untuk ilmu dan aplikasi sistem Bumi. Ultra-sensitivitas DNB VIIRS dalam kondisi cahaya redup memungkinkan kami membuat serangkaian produk malam berkualitas ilmiah baru yang menunjukkan peningkatan substansial dalam resolusi dan kalibrasi sensor jika dibandingkan dengan produk gambar cahaya malam dari era sebelumnya, yaitu Defense Meteorological Satellite Program/Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS). Peningkatan tersebut memungkinkan produk DNB VIIRS memantau dengan lebih baik besarnya dan tanda tangan fenomena malam hari, serta sumber emisi cahaya antropogenik.
VNP46A2 adalah nama singkat untuk produk Lampu Malam (NTL) harian yang dikoreksi dengan cahaya bulan dan atmosfer yang disebut VIIRS/NPP Gap-Filled Lunar BRDF-Adjusted Nighttime Lights Daily L3 Global 500m Linear Lat Lon Grid.
