Project EMIT adalah bagian dari Program Earth Venture-Instrument (EV-I) yang diarahkan oleh Program Director NASA Earth Science Division (ESD).
EMIT terdiri dari spektrometer pencitraan Dyson inframerah VSWIR yang diadaptasi untuk
pemasangan di International Space Station (ISS). EMIT mengukur radiasi antara 380 dan 2.500 nanometer, dengan bandpass sekitar 7 nm.
Data dikumpulkan dalam jalur yang lebarnya sekitar 75 km di
