Die ASTER-GED (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer Global Emissivity Database) wurde vom Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) der NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) am California Institute of Technology entwickelt. Dieses Produkt enthält die durchschnittliche Emissivität und Standardabweichung für alle fünf ASTER-Bänder im thermischen Infrarotbereich, die durchschnittliche LST (Land Surface Temperature, Geländeoberflächentemperatur) und Standardabweichung, ein neu abgetastetes ASTER GDEM, eine Land-Wasser-Maske, den durchschnittlichen NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, normalisierter differenzierter Vegetationsindex) und die Standardabweichung sowie die Anzahl der Beobachtungen.
Die Bodentemperatur und Emissivität (LST&E) von ASTER-GED werden mit dem ASTER Temperature Emissivity Separation (TES)-Algorithmus in Kombination mit einer Water Vapor Scaling (WVS)-Methode zur atmosphärischen Korrektur unter Verwendung von MODIS MOD07-Atmosphärenprofilen und dem MODTRAN 5.2-Strahlungsübertragungsmodell generiert.
Dieses Produkt wurde aus wolkenfreien Pixeln für alle verfügbaren ASTER-Daten (2000–2008) abgeleitet.
Für ASTER-Daten und -Produkte, die vom LP DAAC vertrieben werden, mit Ausnahme des ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) Datasets (ASTGTM) Version 2 (v2), gelten keine Einschränkungen hinsichtlich der Datennutzung, des Verkaufs oder der Weiterverteilung.
