Dies wird in Verbindung mit thumbnails.getPixels verwendet. Ein Aufruf von thumbnails.create liefert einen Ausdruck und einige Ausgabeoptionen. Der häufigste Anwendungsfall für dieses Endpunktpaar besteht darin, einen komplexen Ausdruck über eine POST-Anfrage an thumbnails.create zu senden und dann das berechnete Bild über eine GET-Anfrage an thumbnails.getPixels abzurufen. Dieser zweiteilige Prozess kann in mehr Situationen als ComputePixels verwendet werden. Insbesondere: Das Ergebnis von ComputePixels muss entpackt werden, um die codierten Bildbytes zu erhalten. Das Ergebnis von thumbnails.getPixels kann direkt in einem Browser angezeigt werden. – ComputePixels kann nur von einem autorisierten Nutzer mit einem OAuth-Token mit korrektem Gültigkeitsbereich aufgerufen werden. thumbnails.create unterliegt derselben Einschränkung, thumbnails.getPixels kann jedoch mit einer URL aufgerufen werden, die einen API-Schlüssel enthält. Daher können URLs, die thumbnails.getPixels aufrufen, breiter verwendet werden.
Das Ergebnis der Auswertung des Ausdrucks muss einige angemessene Anforderungen für das angeforderte Bildformat erfüllen. Insbesondere für das JPEG- oder PNG-Format sind ein oder drei Ausgabebänder und Ausschnittswerte erforderlich, die außerhalb des Bereichs 0–255 liegen.
Die Beschreibung „Miniaturbild“ impliziert keine Einschränkung der Größe des berechneten Bildes. Für thumbnails.create/thumbnails.getPixels gelten dieselben Einschränkungen wie für ComputePixels. Anfragen sind auf 48 MB unkomprimierte Daten pro Anfrage beschränkt. Diese werden berechnet als Produkt der Abmessungen der Anfrage in Pixeln, der Anzahl der angeforderten Bildbänder und der Anzahl der Bytes pro Pixel für jedes Band. Anfragen sind außerdem auf maximal 32.000 Pixel in jeder Dimension und maximal 1.024 Bänder beschränkt. Anfragen, die diese Limits überschreiten, führen zu einem Fehlercode 400 (BAD_REQUEST).
