Adding new content
April 10, 2006
This week, we thought we'd answer some of the questions we've gotten recently. If you have
questions, just head on over to our
Google Group.
The group members are really helpful and we'll answer questions here as we can.
I'm adding a new section to my site, which will add quite a bit of content. Should I create a
Sitemap with all of my content and submit that, or should I create several Sitemaps and submit
them over a period of a few weeks?
A single Sitemap and multiple Sitemaps are handled in exactly the same way, so it
really comes down to what's easiest for you. If you have fewer than
50,000 URLs, you can simply
create one Sitemap with everything in it and
submit that.
ou could also create a separate Sitemap with the new content if that is easier for your to manage.
However, you don't need to stagger the submission dates. Whether you choose to create one Sitemap
or multiple Sitemaps, you can submit all your pages at one time.

For sites with under 50,000 URLs, a single Sitemap containing all content is recommended. Alternatively, a separate Sitemap for new content can be made for management ease. Submitting all pages at once is acceptable, regardless of the number of Sitemaps. Questions about site management can be asked in the Google Group. The post is from April 10, 2006 by Vanessa Fox.\n"]]
